Week #7 – Don’t Pretend…Make Plans! \u00a0Go “Get Your Wings!”<\/p>\n

Happy Friday — and Happy Halloween! \u00a0What are you planning to\u00a0be today?<\/p>\n

For Rob’s wake, a work friend\u00a0of mine (who didn’t even know Rob) drove nearly two hours to attend his viewing. \u00a0While Jim H.\u00a0waited patiently on line\u00a0he saw the plane photos, Rob’s pilot log, his flight suit — and on the word board he wrote: “He’s finally got his wings!”<\/p>\n

Jim is an artist…a sensitive soul who sees poetry in most people. \u00a0His comment is a poignant metaphor…and poetic\u00a0completion of Rob’s long held desire to BE a pilot. \u00a0And Rob didn’t just dream about it…he pursued it every way he could. \u00a0He spent time at airports,\u00a0around\u00a0planes, talking shop with\u00a0pilots, logging hours, and enduring\u00a0long hot summer days on the tarmac at airshows. \u00a0I will never really know what it meant to a boy who never traveled\u00a0very far from home to be miles high in the air with nothing but a propeller to keep him going! \u00a0But it made him happy…and he planned around it…and that was enough for me to believe he could be it!<\/p>\n

Are you making pretend…or making plans?<\/p>\n

Halloween is a day for pretending…pretending to be fierce or funny, scary or sexy. \u00a0To masquerade our secret selves…or maybe even disguise our real ones. \u00a0But look closer: is there\u00a0more to your costume than an attempt to collect candy or win an award? \u00a0Is there a dream or desire\u00a0behind that mask that represents a calling to BE something more in your every day life?<\/p>\n

Your assignment for this weekend: \u00a0If your “costume” became your clothing on November 1st and beyond…what would you pick? \u00a0What props or clues, habits or traits would you need to let\u00a0people know…this is who I am, this is who I was meant to BE. \u00a0Then ask yourself…what is the ONE NEXT THING you need\u00a0to do to go from pretending to planning? \u00a0Write it down — and DO IT this weekend. \u00a0Don’t\u00a0pretend…MAKE PLANS! \u00a0Go get your wings!<\/p>\n

To quote Dr. Frankenfurter’s sweet refrain from Rocky Horror: “Don’t dream it…BE IT!”<\/p>\n
