Week #140 – Clear the deck! \u00a0(Summer’s coming!)<\/b><\/p>\n

Memorial Day is NEXT weekend!!! \u00a0And while I may be living in the land of eternal sunshine (which, by the way, is not all it’s cracked up to be) — most of my friends back east are heading into summer. \u00a0And for many of you, it’s the BEST season of the year!<\/p>\n

One of the things I miss most about New York\/New Jersey is the weather. \u00a0Four clearly cut quarters of the year with distinctly different seasons always served as a great reminder of the swiftness of time passing, and the importance of capturing the moments right in front of you.<\/p>\n

And when tomorrow may not be beautiful…again…there is a sense of urgency to grab it while it’s there. \u00a0To make the most of it. \u00a0To squeeze the life out of it.<\/p>\n

To eat the ice cream on your plate.<\/p>\n

And the best way to do this…is without guilt!<\/span><\/p>\n

I know this…because I’ve spent a lot of time taking care of to-dos when I should have been out enjoying myself. \u00a0And I’ve tried to enjoy myself when I know I should be taking care of other things. \u00a0It’s a delicate balance.<\/p>\n

You can’t be in the moment\u00a0if you’re still catching up on spring cleaning, taxes, or putting that Christmas stuff away (come on…I know there is one of you out there that still has a tree up!). \u00a0So make a list…check it twice…and get some of that old stuff done and put away in time for Summer 2017!<\/p>\n

Your Happyness Challenge for the week ahead: “Clear the deck!” \u00a0<\/strong>I know many of you (both parents and students) are WORN OUT from the school year and looking forward to coasting for a bit. \u00a0Give yourself one more good push! \u00a0<\/span>Sit down and brainstorm a quick list of things you want to get done before summer sets in. \u00a0What do you want done? \u00a0Out of the way? \u00a0Finished? \u00a0Completed? \u00a0Think about what it would look like to be able to sit out on your deck and watch the grass grow, to take that spontaneous day trip to the beach, to huddle the kids together and enjoy that thunderstorm — all without the guilt of thinking “I should probably be doing (fill in the blank) right now.” \u00a0Life is precious. \u00a0Time is short. \u00a0We never know what the next season of our lives will bring. \u00a0Check some things off the list this week…and make space to enjoy the Summer of 2017!<\/p>\n
