Week #350 \u2013 REMEMBER: Keep the \u201cMemorial\u201d in Memorial Day!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greetings, All \u2014 and Happy Friday!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can you believe it’s here?! Another Memorial Day Weekend — and a re-opening of epic proportions for most of the country!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It gives a whole new layer of meaning — and appreciation — of the word “freedom.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This post has been an\u00a0annual repeat<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 because it\u2019s always a good reminder to keep the \u201cMemorial\u201d in Memorial Day!!!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As always, but especially this year, it\u2019s important to remember the origins of this date and to honor those who gave their lives in service to this country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Memorial Day, for certain, is a day set aside to remember those who died serving our country. \u00a0But before it was called \u201cMemorial Day\u201d \u2014 it was called \u201cDecoration Day\u201d because it was a day when families reunited at burial locations to \u201cdecorate\u201d the graves of their fallen. \u00a0And because many people traveled very far to get there \u2014 they would relish the opportunity to visit and reconnect with relatives, usually accompanied by a pot-luck or picnic supper nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relish.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Especially this year, as many of us will spend time freely and comfortably with friends and relatives we haven’t seen in a very long time\u2026seems our modern traditions of family reunions and barbecues are not really that far off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the REMEMBERING (and DECORATING) that we sometimes miss!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your Happyness Challenge for the Week Ahead:\u00a0Keep the MEMORIAL in Memorial Day! <\/strong>Enjoy your family, the weather (nice or not), and the very real freedom we have (even if you still feel limited at this time) \u2014 just remember to REMEMBER! \u00a0This may mean simply raising a flag, bringing a note or flowers to a grave of one who lost his\/her life in service, or writing a name in the sand for all to see. \u00a0You could make a donation, plant a tree, or lay a wreath at the base of a statue. \u00a0Even after the day is past, the flowers fade, or the ocean wipes the shore clean \u2014 you never know how long your tribute will stick to the walls of someone else\u2019s memory!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
